Several Metro Publisher community members have been asking us about Google’s Accelerated Mobile Pages (AMP) and Facebook’s Instant Articles. We have had a lot of discussions about both technologies internally and would like to share our thoughts – as well as let you know what our plans are for supporting these technologies.
First of all, what is influencing the development of these technologies? Facebook and Google say: speed. We agree that speed is important but we also want to be clear about this: we think Facebook and Google have other motives which include an attempt to tighten their grip on what is your audience!
At the bottom of this article we have included several links to articles which you may want to read so that you have a bit more context about what the risks are for deploying both of these technologies.
Having said all that, we at Metro Publisher firmly believe in providing you with choices which is why we will be offering both Google AMP and Facebook Instant articles support. Expect to see these rolled out in the near future as part of one of our micro releases. As always, this feature will be free and without having to deal with any plugins or code. You will simply be able to activate these, when available, via the 3rd parties tab.
We will notify you via Twitter, Facebook, Linkedin (are you following us yet? -- if not please take a moment to) and of course on our website as we release these new features in the coming weeks.
